Xbox chief doesn’t see 'all the value' in TV cable box features

When Microsoft originally unveiled the Xbox One nearly a couple of years ago, the software program maker was focused heavily on entertainment. Reaction was swift and critical from fans, and also the launch quickly changed into a disaster. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Xbox chief, took within the role around last year and he has re-centered you can actually focus on gaming. In an interview with The Verge, Spencer has shared some of his vision throughout the future of the entertainment features inside Xbox One.

While just as much time is spent watching entertainment with an Xbox console as winning contests, Microsoft is apparently looking at new solutions to bring entertainment features to your Xbox. "We probably took a little different approach than we did at launch," admits Spencer. "We've been thinking a whole lot about over-the-top and over-the-air conent and ways in which the aggregation coming from all your content on this un-bundled world that individuals seem to be surviving in." Part of which includes seen the corporation launch Xbox One digital TV tuners, and Spencer says the organization will continue down that sort of path.

I'M NOT SURE WE HAVE AS MUCH VALUE TO ADD THERE

"Whether I think I'm going to become an additive thing for a cable box... I'm not sure we have as often value to include there from the long run where I think about the spot that the space will go." That's not surprising. Almost every Xbox executive we profiled for the TV integration has left the organization. While the Xbox One promised deep interactive TV integration, the results has been a combination of IR blasters and UI in addition to cable boxes. Spencer now sees Xbox adding value to help people find the proper TV show and the ability to watch content streamed from an Xbox for some other devices. "We see what individuals do around the box and now we know making advances inside entertainment space is very important," according to him. "You'll hear more from us soon actually this."

Rumors have suggested Microsoft is working away at a DVR feature with the Xbox One to enable you to record TV shows. With Microsoft planning for a bigger presence for the Gamescom event in a few days, possibly we'll see some announcements around entertainment. "I think you will discover natural features you could see where an Xbox could execute a god job helping, specifically in a world that you have video sources from all on the place," teases Spencer. That seems like a hint at might what may get announced a few weeks. The Verge will probably be reporting live from Gamescom, so stay tuned for more for all of our Xbox coverage.
